US Judge Blocks Minnesota Prediction Market Ban, India Mandates Esports Registration

US Regulatory Developments

A federal judge in the United States has temporarily halted Minnesota’s criminal prohibition on prediction markets, citing potential conflict with federal legislation. The ruling arrives just days before the state law was scheduled to take effect.

The court decision leaves the legal status of prediction markets in Minnesota under review. While state authorities initially moved to criminalize the sector, federal preemption remains the central question. Concurrently, New Jersey casino operators and the National Football League are directing their efforts toward Washington, advocating for federal support of the industry.

The same state is also evaluating a potential restriction on sweepstakes casino models following recent microbetting guidelines.

International Licensing Updates

Regulatory frameworks in other regions are also undergoing adjustments. India requires all esports titles to complete registration with the Online Gaming Authority before launch. In Africa, BC.GAME has entered the Ghanaian market with official licensing approval. This marks the operator’s third regulated jurisdiction, joining previously established operations in Nigeria and Mexico.

Shifting legal boundaries across these regions highlight the importance of adaptive licensing strategies for gaming operators. Market compliance now depends on continuous monitoring of federal and state legislative developments. An industry workshop addressing these licensing updates is scheduled for 11 August.
